A number of people answered my question on "action panorama". To everybody: Thank you. I am attempting a new approach: building a multi-camera rig. I have found some inspiration, f.ex. DIY Streetview.org, where Jan use 2 Canon with fish-eye add-ons. Do you have any links to sites, where you can find technical drawing and other stuff on how to combine something like 3 compact cameras in order to get 3 shots taken at the same time. Hope they can be stitched properly.

if you will use it to shoot stuff that is more than 5 meters away then you can think about it. panos with everything more than 5 meters away are usually pretty boring, though.

check agnos, they make a panohead for 3 SLR cameras that does exactly what you need.

yes, agnos.com has a pretty cool 3-DSLR mounting rig. – Joergen Geerds May 25 at 16:54

Hi Leif,

this is Jan from http://www.diy-streetview.org.

You were asking for a drawing on how to combine 3 cameras to take one-shot panoramas.

Well its really simple. For ca. 83 Canon Point & Shot cameras there is StereoDataMaker, a custom firmware to temporarily replace the cameras operating system. It gives you synchronized release with an accuracy of ca. 0.005 seconds or better. By use of custom made USB cables. (Just the cables, not the USB protocol.)

The rest is just a rig that depends a lot on what cameras and maybe conversion lenses you pick.

All info on my rig made from 2x A570 IS Canon cameras and Nikon FC-E8 fisheye lenses with FOV of ca. 190 degrees are available on http://www.diy-streetview.org. So are the panoramas and even panoramic videos I shot.

Please feel free to contact me: janmartin AT diy-streetview DOT org

Thanks for the hint, Enrique. Actually I am working on a project like this. Just beginning with some drawings in Google Sketchup, but I am making progress. – Leif Nygaard Eilertsen Jul 30 at 12:16
